Overview of Professional Development

“The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”
 ~ Marcel Proust

VAIS offers a dynamic array of professional development opportunities for the life long learners – teachers, administrators, trustees, parents, students. Through committee work, surveys and conversations with leaders in teaching and administration, VAIS develops a strong, relevant program of conferences, workshops and online learning opportunities. VAIS has many formal committees, such as the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) and the Financial Officers Group Planning Committee (FOG) to name a few; these groups meet, converse, develop, and plan throughout the year to identify topics of interest  and speakers for specific programs. Additionally, these leaders are mindful of crafting programs of high quality, as well as high value.

As part of its accreditation process, VAIS requires that its schools have a functioning program for continuing professional development. With this Standard in mind, it is critical to continue the active use of teacher-leaders and administrators in the growth of VAIS professional development activities. Not only will this benefit VAIS educators but ultimately the well-being and sustainability of VAIS schools.
