The Airlie Resort and Conference Center is located in Warrenton, on the Northern Virginia periphery and  is just a 50-minute drive from the center of Washington, D.C. yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of our Nation’s Capital. The historic manor house and village of guest rooms are set on 300 acres of verdant Virginia landscape featuring pastoral, lake, and wildlife views - a true retreat-like setting!

2018 Student Festival of the Arts

This event is for member schools only.


The excitement is high for the Second Annual Student Festival of the Arts at Fredericksburg Academy on April 12, 2018. What a fabulous opportunity for students in grades 8-12 from member schools to come together and share their love for the arts! Students can participate in creative workshops meant to stimulate new ideas and offer innovative techniques. The Festival is designed for students in grades 8-12 who have an interest or passion for the arts. Workshops cover a wide array of topics, and we welcome students who enjoy all mediums from band and chorus to creative writing and dance to painting and sculpture.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: 
Each school is invited to bring up to 10 students. There is a maximum number of students that can participate based on workshop space. All students are required to have a chaperone from their school at the Festival at all times. 

Due to the logistics of the event, the registration deadline is earlier than most VAIS programs. All participants must be registered by March 23. All cancellations must be made on or prior to March 23, and no refunds will be given after that date, per the VAIS Cancellation Policy.

Students will be able to select workshops after the school has registered for the event. 

COST: 
$50/student
Adult chaperones attend free of charge. 
Fee includes snacks, lunch, and the event t-shirt.

Join your admission colleagues from around the Commonwealth at the lovely Jepson Alumni Center for an all-day program exploring legal mandates, best practices and practical guidance about the increasingly complex world of independent schools' admissions policies and practices.Through real-world scenarios, the program will review tips and traps for admissions applications, policies and guidelines (including non-discrimination, diversity and inclusion goals), financial aid materials, enrollment agreements, interacting with students and applicants who may be disabled, preventing and responding to data breaches, how to manage risks associated with interviews and on-campus visits, and more.  

FEATURED SPEAKERS
We welcome back Sara Goldsmith Schwartz and her colleague, Sarah Fay, to tackle the admissions realm for VAIS professionals. The attorneys at Schwartz Hannum PC in the Schools and Education Practice assist educational leaders in meeting their legal obligations to both employees and students under state and federal laws.  Our attorneys understand the unique dynamics of the school environment - how each decision, from hiring and admission to termination and expulsion, affects relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumnae, the community and governing boards.  

 



Sara Goldsmith Schwartz
is the Founder and President of Schwartz Hannum PC, a law firm based in Andover, MA.  Sara
graduated from Concord Academy, and is a cum laude graduate of both Yale College and Harvard Law School.  She began her legal career at the law firm of Ropes & Gray in Boston, after completing a federal court clerkship with The Honorable William Young in Boston.

Sara founded the Firm in 1995.  The Firm has 13 lawyers, of whom 6 are dedicated to the Firm’s education practice.  The education  practice is the largest in New England, representing more than 200 educational institutions in Massachusetts, New England and throughout the United States.  Schwartz Hannum’s Schools and Education Practice provides comprehensive guidance to the full spectrum of school and education clients.

 

Sarah Fay is a member of the Firm’s Education Group Practice.  Sarah’s practice is student-focused and compliance-focused.  Sarah routinely advises the Firm’s education clients on best practices for admissions processes and enrollment contracts, accommodating disabled students, responding to and investigating student interpersonal misconduct, disciplinary matters, health center audits, risk management strategies for off-campus trips, student records and confidentiality issues, transgender and gender non-conforming students, student handbooks, and policies and practices for promoting an inclusive community. Sarah works closely with clients to develop policies that comply with applicable laws and reflect best practices while ensuring to maintain the unique voice and culture of each school.

As a group, administrative support professionals have the ability to empower each other, work collaboratively across multiple departments, help utilize each other’s talents, and propel their organizations to the next level. April Stallworth developed a program called H.E.A.R.T. for her school district that was recognized as the 2015 winner of the American Society of Administrative Professionals very first Eureka! Award. Learn how April created this award-winning program where 150+ administrative support professionals came together to exponentially improve their work environment and how you can do it too!

Featured Speaker

April Stallworth is a respected leader, public speaker, life coach, executive administrative professional and visionary. She currently works full time for the Niles Township High School District in Skokie, Illinois as the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. She is also the Founder & CEO of Strong Women - Strong Lives, a coaching enterprise dedicated to encouraging and empowering women. She teaches life strategies that transform. She provides individual and group coaching services, workshops, and has spoken for numerous organizations throughout the country.

April is equally well-known and passionate about Helping Empower Administrative professionals through Resources and Training. The H.E.A.R.T program combines April's 30 years of experience as an executive administrative professional in corporate America and the nonprofit sector, to provide administrative professionals the resources, training, and coaching they need to take their careers to the next level. The H.E.A.R.T program was the winner of the American Society for Administrative Professionals very first Eureka! Award in 2015. This award recognizes outstanding achievement by an administrative professional who has made innovative contributions to the organization for which he or she works. A lifelong learner who truly appreciates the enormous benefits of education, April received an Associate’s Degree in Office Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Management, and a Master’s Degree in Management & Leadership.

In 2017, April began pursuit of her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership. She is also certified as a professional life coach. Originally from the great state of New Jersey, April resides in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago with her Daughter, who is currently a graduating senior at The Ohio State University. Go Buckeyes!
