Core Values

  •  We live by Benedictine values of community, hospitality, and stewardship, finding strength in our prayerful spirituality, beauty in God’s creation, and joy in serving others.
  •  We live by Benedictine values of community, hospitality, and stewardship, finding strength in our prayerful spirituality, beauty in God’s creation, and joy in serving others.
  • We create a diverse, nurturing, and inclusive community in which together we make one another stronger.
  • We develop the whole student by stimulating pursuit of intellectual excellence, physical well-being, expressive creativity, and spiritual discovery.
  • We exhibit high moral character in the way we show respect for ourselves and others.
  • We serve as good stewards of the resources that are entrusted to us, ensuring opportunities for as many young women as possible, regardless of economic situation.

The Saint Gertrude Advantage
For nearly 100 years, Saint Gertrude has educated young women to learn, lead, and serve in a complex and fast-changing world.  We are a diverse and welcoming community with distinct advantages for your daughter:

The Small-School Advantage

  • Fewer than 300 students, ensuring personal attention
  • Average class size - 15; student/teacher ratio - 10 to 1
  • One-on-one advising and college counseling throughout all four years
  • College application workshops built into the curriculum
  • 100% of our graduates continue on to college or university

The All-Girls Advantage

  • Only Richmond area high school where all classes are exclusively single gender
  •  Students at all-girl schools, like ours, report a higher level of self-confidence
  • They outscore their peers from coed schools on the SAT
  • They are SIX times more likely to consider majoring in STEM fields (science/technology/engineering/math)

The Richmond Advantage

  • Located in the heart of historic Richmond in a safe and vibrant neighborhood
  • Teachers and students experience all of Richmond as a living, learning laboratory
  • Frequent and regular class activities at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the James River Park System, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, and the Science Museum of Virginia

The Catholic & Benedictine Advantage

  • Dedicated to living the values of the Benedictine Sisters – hospitality, respect, service, and character
  • Families of every faith tradition are welcome
  • We actively promote prayer, work, and community action as a means to social justice

The NEW Flexible Tuition Program

Our commitment to educational equity is foundational to Saint Gertrude High School. The New Flexible Tuition Program is that commitment in action. Our NEW Flexible Tuition Program, also known as indexed tuition or variable tuition, is a sliding scale tuition model designed to meet each family’s unique financial situation. While every family will continue to contribute their daughter’s tuition and fees, our New Flexible Tuition Program enables all families the opportunity to access an affordable Saint Gertrude education for their daughters. To learn more about this program, please visit saintgertrude.org/flexibletuition.

Student Life

Clubs and Organizations: Bury your nose in a great read with Book Club or build a drone with our Robotics Team. With 20 different clubs and organizations, students have the opportunity to explore their full range of interests.

Rich Traditions: Junior Ring, May Day, Freshmen Friends (formerly Big Sis/Little Sis), Sponsors, SONG CONTEST … There are so many traditions at Saint Gertrude, many which go back to our school’s founding, nearly 100 years ago.

Cultural Travel Programs: Our cultural travel programs provide our students with a better understanding of cultures around our community, state, country, and the world. Opportunities range from homestays and academic exchanges, sightseeing and tourism to in-depth social justice and environmental experiences. Past experiences include Haiti, El Paso, France, England, Switzerland, Spain, and the Grand Canyon.

Leadership: Leadership means more than taking the seat at the top of an organizational chart. It is a combination of caring, passion, confidence, and initiative. Through our Leadership Institute, LIFT (Leading Through Introspection, Faith and Transformation), every Saint Gertrude student graduates with the confidence and ability to embrace leadership opportunities wherever she finds them.
