Girl Centered Makes a World of Difference

At St. Catherine’s School, we are girl-centered. Every teacher, every lesson plan and every resource dollar aligns with the ways girls learn best. We intentionally foster a culture of confidence that allows each girl to emerge as a strong, smart and confident woman. 

Our girl-centered education for age 3 through grade 12 includes Mandarin Chinese
and Spanish starting at age three, a leadership curriculum, STEM program and more
than 300 Upper School classes with St. Christopher’s School. Experiential learning
goes beyond the classroom with a vibrant arts program and championship athletics,
further complemented by global engagement, service outreach, internships, and



History
From the founding in 1890 by Virginia Randolph Ellett, the school continues to give its students the best possible preparation for their college years and beyond. 



Campus 
Located on a 16-acre campus in the residential West End of Richmond, St. Catherine’s provides the most updated technology in the classrooms including SMART boards, science labs, innovation labs, independent study areas and flexible teaching and learning spaces. The campus also features two libraries, the Center for Early Childhood Education, a 70,000 square-foot Kenny Sports and Fitness Center, art studios, theatre building and dance studios. The school is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. The school is undergoing campus construction to develop the southern third of campus. Arts
The arts are celebrated at St. Catherine's and are an integral part of school life infusing meaning through classes, exhibits, concerts and productions.  Girls explore their passions in visual arts, music, dance and theatre at all levels. Theatre collaborates with St. Christopher's in the Middle and Upper Schools for joint performances throughout the year. Visual arts as well as the musical arts showcase their work throughout Richmond and the region. St. Catherine's benefits from both a professional Dance Company and a Quartet in residence. 


Athletics
St. Catherine's boasts better than 72 percent participation in the athletic program, which includes 40 teams in 14 sports. The outstanding facilities include the 72,000 sq ft. Kenny Sports and Fitness Center, which holds a regionally-acclaimed eight-lane pool with 1-meter diving, three court gym and 4,000 sq. ft. weight room. The main campus and 145-acre campus in Goochland County combine for five natural Bermuda fields and a softball facility. Teams regularly win LIS titles, advance to state tournaments and move on to compete at the collegiate level.

St. Catherine’s boasts more than 5,000 active alumni who are excelling in fields such as, law, education, business, communications and technology. 

Our Brother School
While St. Catherine’s believes single-sex education is the ideal learning environment, we also know that ultimately men and women will live and work together for the rest of their lives. Young minds need time and attention to develop a strong foundation of learning and confidence. St. Catherine's and St. Christopher’s School collaborate to provide distinctive programs and opportunities that bring boys and girls together in age-appropriate ways that build friendships, foster service to the broader community, express creativity through the arts and engage in academic pursuits in the classroom through shared courses in the Upper School.
