Mission Statement

Orchard House School educates and inspires middle school girls in a responsive, academically engaging community that fosters each girl's intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, emotional integrity, and physical well-being.

Orchard House School is designed to meet the academic, social and developmental needs of middle school girls in the Richmond area and has been recognized by national leaders in girls' education for its rigorous interdisciplinary program of academics including its program in literary and visual arts and its hands-on approach to math, science and technology. Orchard House has a comprehensive arts program composed of drama, visual arts, dance and music. All of these programs are enhanced by an inclusive community that consistently reinforces positive social skills. Every aspect of the school is focused on the developmental and academic needs of girls.

Orchard House considers its CORE program to be the heart of Orchard House. It is integrated into the academic and social experiences of each girl throughout her four years at our school. Orchard House School prepares girls to be engaged in the communities in which they learn, live and love. CORE – connections, openness, resilience and engagement – focuses on each girl exploring her own interests, talents and personality, in order to understand herself and to develop a positive self-image. OHS provides opportunities to value and respect, to learn from others, and to forge lasting connections. Our vision for each Orchard House School graduate is a girl who has the tools and confidence to:

  • Make connections through interactions with others and by connecting her own thoughts and ideas

  • Be open to new ideas, experiences and people

  • Remain resilient and courageous when confronted with challenges and adversity

  • Be engaged as a citizen of the world

Orchard House is committed to maintaining a diverse community through both its people and programs. The curriculum is designed to foster respect, strengthen personal excellence, build confidence and develop well-rounded girls who are engaged and active learners who understand their potential to contribute to the world.
