HOW WILL WE LEARN?
Join your colleagues for the 2024 VAIS Business Officers Institute in Richmond! Anticipate inspiring and informative daily Keynotes followed by Learning Blocks where we will dive into content from national experts and collaborate with VAIS colleagues.

New this year!  Pop-up Learning Session: No stage/No slides necessary! In this "unconference" session, we will learn from the experts within the group, YOU!  Pick a topic and talk about it with your peers, or feature your latest project, a new tool you are implementing, or anything else you are excited about. Might you prefer to facilitate a Q&A to stimulate input from many voices? That works, too! Anticipate 20-minute learning blocks during this session. Submit your Pop-up Learning Topic by April 1, 2024 for consideration.  All submitters will be notified on April 8, 2024.

Opening Keynote: Mission-Anchored Compensation: Stability through Strategic Alignment,   Amber Stockham, NBOA. Independent schools are in the ultimate people business, with up to 80% of operating budgets devoted to salaries and benefits for the faculty and staff who deliver your mission every day. For this reason, a compensation system capable of attracting and retaining mission-driven employees is critically important to the health and stability of your school. Each school is unique, and the challenges and opportunities they face based on their size, demographics, and geography will all affect their compensation strategy. Join Amber Stockham, NBOA’s Senior Director, Human Resources Programs, as she shares the results of NBOA’s recent analysis of compensation systems within independent schools and explores the innovative ways schools are aligning their compensation systems with their missions and strategic priorities. Discover essential factors that must be considered when making changes to your school’s compensation and begin to explore the possibilities available to your school based on your unique needs.

Strategic Keynote: Power & Impact: The Head/CFO Relationship, Dallas Joseph, CFO, Baylor School & Scott Wilson, ism, Executive Leadership Department Head and Executive Coach
Successful independent schools have several fundamental qualities in common, but one is ubiquitous: a positive and productive partnership between the head of school and the school’s CFO. This session explores the qualities of that critically important relationship, regardless of your school's size, and the roadmap for maximizing the relationship for the sake of the school.
