Strengthening Communities, Building Movements, and Facilitating Change: Independent Schools as Civil Society Organizations, Dr. Andrew Schoeneman, Associate Professor and Chair, Nonprofit Studies, University of Richmond, School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS).
Join Schoeneman for an interactive exchange that will make sense of independent schools as civil society organizations and perhaps even as engines of systemic justice, participatory democracy, and social movement. Schools of any kind are intended to educate young people and prepare them for lives of meaningful engagement. This is a solemn task in any society, and perhaps especially so in a democracy that relies on healthy public discourse and purposeful action. But are schools designed, understood, and practiced with these ideas in mind? Is everybody on the same page? Let’s talk about these questions and, as advancement folks, explore how we can tell stories of the bold potential for independent schools to foster community and social change.
